Hyderabad: Government to use remote sensing data to identify crop areas

Hyderabad: In response to concerns raised by divisional level staff in the agriculture department, the state government is set to use remote sensing data for accurate assessment of crop areas and documentation of agricultural land under Raithu Bharosa. This new approach aims to ensure that only actively cultivated land is eligible for crop investment assistance, with Cabinet ratification of the new guidelines being considered. During a meeting at the secretariat, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao emphasised the primary objective of the scheme, saying it is aimed at providing assistance especially to actively cultivated land. He underlined the importance of timely agricultural land registration by farmers and the need for transparency in the implementation of the scheme. Representatives of various companies presented their projects, giving details of the areas where crops have been grown and the current status of various crops. They displayed digital maps to demonstrate the suitability of various areas for cultivation and spoke about AI models developed to identify potential crop losses caused by pests and disasters.
