Chandigarh: A fight broke out between a husband and wife over their daughter. The drunken father tied his daughter’s hands and pushed her into a canal. He recorded the incident. The incident took place in Ferozepur district of Punjab. The 17-year-old girl had stopped studying and was wandering around aimlessly. This led her father, Surjit Singh, to express doubts about his daughter’s character.
Meanwhile, on the night of September 29, a fight broke out between the husband and wife over their daughter. Surjit Singh, who was intoxicated, tied the hands of his elder daughter with a rope. He pushed her into the canal while his wife and three other daughters watched. The shocked mother screamed for help. However, the father said goodbye to his daughter who was floating in the water. The video clip he recorded went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the family and police believed that the girl who was swept away in the water had died. A murder case was registered on the complaint of the relatives. Surjit Singh was arrested.
However, the girl returned two months later on December 7. She explained to the media how she had luckily survived. She said that she had been receiving treatment somewhere after falling ill. She said that she could not return immediately as she did not remember some things due to a head injury. However, she did not reveal where she had been for the past two months.
Meanwhile, the girl requested the police to release her arrested father, Surjit Singh, from jail. She pleaded with tears that there was no one to take care of her three younger sisters and that they needed a father. She said that her father, who was drunk, did this after her mother slandered her. The girl said that she did not trust her relatives and asked the police to provide her protection.
However, with the girl’s return, the police officer said that the murder case registered against her father will be changed to an attempt to murder. He revealed that action will be taken based on the girl’s statement.
