₹74 lakh fund for Kurukshetra University
Professor Jitender Kumar Bhardwaj from the Department of Zoology at Kurukshetra University has received a research grant of ₹41 lakh under the Haryana State Research Fund (HSRF), an initiative of the Haryana State Higher Education Council (HSHEC).
The title of this two-year project, which has a total budget of ₹41 lakh, is “Anti-apoptotic potential of Curcuma longa (turmeric) against chlorpyrifos-induced reproductive toxicity in ovarian antral follicles.”
The study aims to investigate the protective effects of Curcuma longa (turmeric) against reproductive toxicity caused by chlorpyrifos, a widely used pesticide. It is expected that this research will generate significant scientific evidence regarding the therapeutic potential of natural bioactive compounds and contribute to the fields of reproductive biology, toxicology, and environmental health.
Professor Jitender Sharma, Head of the Department of Zoology, stated that the department is consistently conducting high-quality research across various fields of life sciences.
Professor Jitender Kumar Bhardwaj remarked that this grant would facilitate high-quality research in the areas of reproductive toxicology and natural therapeutic interventions. He added that the findings would be highly valuable for the scientific community, policymakers, and society at large. Similarly, Dr. Sandeep Gupta, an Associate Professor at the Institute of Environmental Studies, has received a grant of ₹18 lakh to develop an AI-based model for the early detection of ‘leaf rust’ disease in wheat. The project aims to minimize crop loss and enhance wheat productivity.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kulwinder Kaur from the Department of Geography has also received a grant of ₹15 lakh for a two-year research project. The title of this project is “Comprehensive Assessment of Groundwater Resources, Quality, and Sustainability in Haryana, India.” This project focuses on sustainable groundwater management and the assessment of water quality.
