11 criminals planning robbery arrested
New Delhi. Delhi Police has arrested 11 criminals who were planning to rob a jewelery shop in the national capital. Police have recovered two rifles, a double barrel gun, three guns, country-made pistols and bullets from their possession. The accused have been identified as Haryana residents Sanjay Kumar, Vijendra Jat, Vijay Singh Gurjar, Jagat Thakur, Jitendra Kumar, Ramkesh, Saurabh, Paramveer Nehra, Mahipal Panwar, Amit Jat and Sumit Antil.
According to the police, they had received specific information on October 29 that at 11 pm a group of criminals would gather near New Masjid in Deenpur Extension to meet their associates with the intention of committing armed robbery in jewelery shops. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M. Harsh Vardhan said a police team was deployed in the area to nab the criminals before they could commit the crime. All 11 accused persons were arrested in the subsequent operation, the DCP said. When interrogated, the accused admitted to planning robbery in jewelery shops.
“Upon searching, police recovered two rifles, one double barrel gun, three country-made pistols and seven live cartridges from their three vehicles,” the officer said. The police action comes more than a month after a 31-year-old man barged into a jewelery shop in Jangpura, looted gold and diamond jewelery worth over Rs 20 crore and ransacked the shop for 15 hours before fleeing the next day. Remained hidden inside. Later the accused was arrested from a village in Chhattisgarh.
