13 lakh people applied to get their names added to the voter list in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu: 1.3 million people have reportedly applied for the voter registration list in Tamil Nadu. The deadline for applications ended on Sunday (January 18), and the last day saw crowds at many locations as many people showed their enthusiasm for voter registration.
In Tamil Nadu, after receiving the Special Intensified Rectification (SIR) calculation forms, 9,737,831 voters were removed from the draft electoral roll. This reduced the voter count in Tamil Nadu to 54.3 million.
Of the 6.6 million voters removed, eligible and new voters, excluding deceased voters, were given the opportunity to join the voter list by filling out Form 6.
Consequently, notices were sent to 1,243,363 people who had not provided the required information in the draft voter list. They were advised to submit the required documents and self-declaration certificates. The deadline for this was until Sunday.
Applicants can submit any of the following documents to verify their names: birth certificate, passport, identity card of employees or pensioners of central and state government public sector undertakings, documents issued by the government, local bodies, banks, post offices, LIC before 1987, certificates from recognized educational institutions such as schools and universities, Aadhaar, Forest Rights Certificate, Caste Certificate, Government Family Register, etc.
As the deadline passed, 1,303,487 people reported submitting Form 6. It also reported that 35,646 people submitted Form 7, raising objections to the draft voter list. These will be verified, and the final voter list will be published on February 17.
Meanwhile, in view of the holidays after the festival season, there has been a demand to extend the deadline for adding names to the voter list by a few more days.
