14 thousand liters of liquor seized in Telangana
Hyderabad. The Excise Department of Telangana has seized more than 14 thousand liters of illegal distilled (ID) liquor in the span of five days. After the Election Commission of India held a review meeting in Hyderabad on October 5 to review the upcoming assembly election preparations, the excise department seized 14,227 liters of ID liquor, 1,710 kg of jaggery, 94.8 liters of liquor, 170 kg of ganja and 21 vehicles. .
Excise officials arrested two persons in Nizamabad on October 6 and seized 157.39 kg of ganja, a Bolero vehicle and a two-wheeler.
The Election Commission team, during its visit last week, had directed all state and central enforcement agencies to act very strictly against money power and flow of liquor, cash, freebies and drugs.
The enforcement wing of the excise department is taking special steps to check illegal sale, transportation and storage of liquor. Under this, 29,663 suspects have been booked by the enforcement wing.
Officials said they are also keeping an eye on 8,362 history-sheeters, Preventive Detention (PD) Act has also been imposed against 14 people. Officials are holding meetings to keep a strict vigil on the interstate borders.
He said that if necessary, non-bailable warrants would be issued to stop illegal flow of water. Under special measures, the Excise Department has set up 21 checkposts at interstate borders for 24/7 checking. Eight checkposts have been made on the border with Andhra Pradesh. Same number of checkposts are functioning on Telangana-Maharashtra border also.
Officials said they are also conducting round-the-clock testing at four check posts along Karnataka. A checkpost has been created on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. CCTV cameras installed at interstate checkposts are linked to the state command and control center for effective surveillance.
A total of 89 checkposts have been set up in coordination with police and other enforcement agencies. The excise department has formed special teams to keep vigil at the borders and railway routes.
