17-year-old feared drowned at Aksa Beach; search operation underway

Maharashtra: A tragic incident occurred on Friday at Aksa Beach in Mumbai’s Malad area, where a 17-year-old boy is feared to have drowned. A search and rescue operation has been underway by the administration and multiple agencies since the incident.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Disaster Management Cell, the incident occurred on Aksa Beach in Malad West, in the area between INS Hamla and the Sheetla Devi Temple (Tango-13). According to preliminary information, Majid Khan (17) suddenly drifted into deep water while swimming or wading near the water and has been missing since.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the local administration, the Coast Guard, and other rescue agencies were called to the scene. A search operation was immediately launched in the area, which is ongoing at the time of writing. Sea conditions and strong waves are hampering rescue efforts, but teams are continuing to locate the boy.
According to eyewitnesses, the boy had come to the beach with some friends. He went underwater and disappeared within moments. Upon seeing the incident, people present immediately called for help, prompting the local police and lifeguard team to be informed.
BMC officials stated that despite the deployment of lifeguards at the scene, the situation spiraled out of control due to the sudden surge in waves. The administration stated that the sea was also experiencing high tide at the time, further increasing the danger.
The rescue operation involved the Marine Police, Coast Guard, local disaster management team, and lifeguard team. A search operation was underway using boats and divers. However, no trace of the teenager has been found so far.
The local administration has appealed to people to exercise extreme caution on beaches during monsoons and high waves, and to avoid venturing into deep water. Officials also stated that sometimes, despite warnings, people venture too deep into the water, leading to such incidents.
Aksa Beach is one of Mumbai’s most popular beaches, attracting a large number of tourists and locals. However, during the monsoon season, the sea becomes quite dangerous, and such incidents are common.
Currently, the administration’s priority is finding the missing teenager. The search operation is continuing, and every possible area is being searched. Officials have stated that any new information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
This incident has created an atmosphere of anxiety in the area, and the family is inconsolable. Security and vigilance have been increased throughout the area to prevent such incidents in the future.
