18 dead, 70 feared missing after boat sinks in Nigeria, rescue operation underway
Abuja: At least 18 people have lost their life and over 70 are being feared missing after a boat sank in a river in Northern Nigeria. The incident took place in Taraba State of Nigeria on Saturday. Rescue operation for the missing people is still underway.
Reportedly, a motor boat ferry carrying a total of 104 passengers sank in the river while on its way to a market in Mayo Ranewa village. The boat was coming from Karim Lamido district.
Reports from reliable sources said that 14 people have been rescued so far and 18 dead bodies have been recovered. Further details into the matter awaited.
