2 killed as tractor falls into gorge

Two persons were killed when the tractor they were travelling on plunged into a 300-m gorge en route to Jakhana-Guddimanpur at Shillai in Sirmaur district yesterday afternoon. A 15-year-old boy, however, saved his life by jumping off the tractor. The driver of the ill-fated tractor and another boy were killed in the mishap.

Locals took the injured persons to a nearby hospital. The tractor driver died while being taken to the hospital while the boy was declared brought dead by doctors at a Paonta Sahib hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Guman Singh( 41) of Chhitli village and Piyush(17) of Guddimanpur, both hailed from Kamrau. Lakshya of Guddimanpur saved his life by jumping off the tractor. A case has been registered and a probe started, said Pritam Singh Lalta, SHO, Shillai.
