2 more degree colleges included in Himachal’s B Walk program
Shimla. Now two new colleges have been started in the state to connect the youth with skill development. In this, vocational courses will now start in GDC College, Nadaun, and Saraswati Savara College from the new session. That means the number of colleges in the entire state has now increased to 24. Students can take admission in the new session in B-Voc i.e. Bachelor of Vocational Course degree program in colleges.
At present, 40-40 seats have been allotted in both Tourism and Hospitality courses in colleges. Students can now take admission in skill based courses. The government has decided that vocational subjects will be promoted more in schools and colleges. In such a situation, mostly the state government is providing funding to the colleges for B-walk courses and in this, 60 percent focus has been done on B-walk courses. That means, like other UG courses, a student can obtain UG degree separately in these courses. What’s more, children’s interest in this is also increasing every year. In such a situation, degree courses in tourism and retail management have been started in every college.
The objective of which is to develop the skills of the students and connect them with employment. Along with this, the education department is also going to include new courses in these degree programs soon. Under the new education policy, more focus has been given on vocational education. Till now vocational subjects are taught from class 9th. Under the new education policy, it has been decided to start vocational subjects from class 6. In the year 2017, the state government had started B-Voc degree course in colleges.
This includes Center of Excellence College Sanjauli, GC Noorpur, Chamba, Nahan, Rampur, Dharamshala, Mandi, Hamirpur, Kullu, Solan Bilaspur and Seema College of Una Rohru, Government College Haripur District Kullu, GC Ghumarwin, GC Ani, GC Rajgarh and Government Girls. Colleges include RKMV Shimla. In this, 30 percent students of the first batch have got campus placement. The department says that placement cells have been created in colleges. The placement cell contacts the companies and conducts campus placements from time to time.
