MOSCOW: At least 21 people, including three children, were killed and 110 others injured in Ukrainian shelling on the Russian border city of Belgorod, official sources said on Sunday.
The Belgorod governor posted on social media: “The number of dead has increased to 21, of which three are children. 110 people are injured with varying severity, including 17 children. To date, 30 apartments “Various damages have been identified in the buildings.” , 344 apartments, three private houses, numerous businesses and social facilities.”
Belgorod and the region were shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Friday and Saturday, according to a report by the Russian Defense Ministry. The final rocket was carried to the city center by two rockets with cluster weapons and one from a multiple launch rocket system, Xinhua news agency reported.
The ministry said air defense systems intercepted rockets and most of the shells on Saturday and destroyed 13 rockets in the area of the Belgorod region on Friday night.
Meanwhile, citing an unnamed source in the security services of Ukraine, Ukrainian local media reported that Ukrainian forces attacked Russian military facilities in the Belgorod region.
Joint activities of the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue “as a result of Russian missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and the killing of civilians,” the source said.
