22 drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol
Durg. As per the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Ram Gopal Garg*, under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police, action is being taken in various routes of Durg Bhilai by running a campaign against drunken drivers, the main cause of road accidents.
Traffic Police Durg has set up checking points every day from 08.00 pm to late night at Kumhari Toll Plaza, Sirsa Gate, Murga Chowk, Gada Chowk, Suryamall Chowk, Civic Center Bhilai, Pulgaon Chowk, Patel Chowk, Gurudwara Chowk, Nehru Nagar to check drunkenness.
The drivers driving the vehicles were checked through alcometer. In the last 03 days, when a total of 22 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol, the vehicles were seized and kept in the concerned police station for security and the drivers were presented before the court, on which the court issued orders under the Motor Vehicle Act on each case. Under this, a fine of Rs 10 thousand was collected.
Similarly, in the last year 2022, action was taken against 158 drunk drivers and in this year 2023, due to intoxication being the main cause of road accidents at night, special campaign action was taken against it, a total of 245 drivers were booked this year. Action has been taken till date. Traffic Police Durg will continue this campaign to reduce road accidents.
