Vijayawada: Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu on Saturday strongly supported the move to make Amaravati the permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh, calling it a historic step for the state’s future.

Speaking during a special session of the Assembly, he said the decision is important for over 55 million people and reflects the state’s aspirations.

Recalling the period after bifurcation in 2014, he praised former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for his vision to develop Amaravati and acknowledged the contributions of farmers who donated their fertile land for the project.

The Speaker stressed that governance must remain consistent despite changes in governments. Referring to developments since 2019, he said progress has been hampered, impacting the state’s growth and causing hardship to farmers.

He said Amaravati should be firmly established as the permanent capital and added that the central government has agreed to amend the AP Reorganization Act, crediting the Chief Minister’s efforts. Ayyanna Patrudu appealed to all members to work together to ensure the state’s long-term development and a prosperous future.
