29 courts announced in the budget year 2023-24 opened for speedy disposal of pending cases in courts – Law Minister
Law and Legal Affairs Minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal said in the Vidhansabha on Thursday that new courts are being established from time to time by the state government for speedy disposal of pending cases in the courts. He said that in the state budget year 2023-24, the establishment of 69 new courts of different levels has been announced in the state. Out of these 29 courts have been opened. He informed that after consultation with the High Court, action will be taken to open the remaining courts.
Mr. Dhariwal was replying to the supplementary questions asked by the member in this regard during the Question Hour. In a written reply to the original question of the first MLA Mr. Subhash Poonia, the Law Minister informed that till January 1, 2023, a total of 1,27,390 cases are pending against the state government in the subordinate, district and high courts. In the last four years, 1,52,438 new cases were presented in these courts and 1,05,095 cases were decided. He informed that during this period, a total of 1834 appeals were presented by the government in the High Court and the Supreme Court and decisions were taken in 636 cases.
The Law Minister said that in order to reduce the number of cases, the cases are disposed of in Mega Lok Adalats and Lok Adalats from time to time by the State Government and instructions have been issued in the State Litigation Policy-2018 for speedy disposal of cases.
