345 Tamil Nadu fishermen return safely from Iran, welcomed by Union Minister

Tamil Nadu: 345 fishermen from Tamil Nadu stranded in Iran returned safely to India on Sunday. This safe return of the fishermen comes at a time of heightened tensions between Iran and the United States following a joint US-Israeli strike in the region. Union Minister and BJP leader Piyush Goyal welcomed the fishermen at the Chennai airport. He was accompanied by BJP leaders Nainar Nagendran, Tamilisai Soundararajan, and other senior officials.
According to reports, Iran retaliated following the joint US-Israeli strike on February 28th, leaving Tamil Nadu fishermen stranded in Iran. This war-like situation had created tensions both locally and internationally, and both the Tamil Nadu government and the central government were concerned about the fishermen’s safety.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal stated that the fishermen’s safe return was a priority and was made possible after all efforts. He encouraged the fishermen, stating that the central government was taking all possible steps to ensure their safety. He assured the fishermen and their families that special security measures would be taken to address such situations in the future.
The central government and the state government jointly took several measures to ensure the safety of Tamil Nadu fishermen. Contact was maintained with the fishermen stranded in Iran, and special efforts were made to ensure their safe return. Fishermen arriving at the airport also breathed a sigh of relief and shared their experiences. Many fishermen described living in Iran amid the war as challenging, and at times, they felt their lives were in danger.
The fishermen were welcomed at the Chennai airport with great fanfare. BJP leaders Nainar Nagendran and Tamilisai Soundararajan welcomed the fishermen with flowers and expressed their joy at their safe return. The fishermen’s families and local residents were also present.
This incident also highlighted the impact on international politics and trade routes. Iran’s response to the US and Israeli attacks had impacted international maritime activities, and the stranding of Indian fishermen was a prime example. The safe return of Tamil Nadu fishermen brought a welcome relief in this tense situation.
Notably, the central and state governments adopted a joint strategy to ensure the safety of the fishermen. A plan was developed to safely evacuate them through airlines and diplomatic channels. The fishermen were immediately brought to Chennai airport and provided with first aid and relief measures.
This safe return has brought joy to Tamil Nadu fishermen and their families. This return not only brings relief to them but also demonstrates the central government’s promptness and effectiveness in its foreign policy.
