3500 years old city came out from under water

Iraq | Kurdistan is a land rich in history. Parts of the Tigris River in the region experienced a drought earlier this year. Due to drought the water level fell and the three thousand year old city was settled. This Bronze Age structure was submerged in the waters of the Tigris River for a long time. The city woke up earlier this year.

Soon after, researchers began excavating the ancient city before the Mosul Dam Reservoir flooded it.

One by one the ruins of fortifications, towers, impressive palaces and other large buildings are being discovered. Archaeologists say the site is believed to be the ancient city of Zhakiku, which was once an important center of politics in the region. Researchers say that the walls of the fort are several meters high in some places. These walls made of sun-dried mud bricks are surprisingly well preserved.
