36 kg opium worth Rs 6 crore seized
Kamrup (ANI): Assam’s Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday recovered 36 kg of opium worth Rs 6 crore from a vehicle in Amingaon and arrested four people.
Partha Sarathi Mahant, DIG (STF) told ANI that information was received from sources that narcotics were being transported from Manipur.
The input was acted upon and an STF team under the supervision of DIG (STF) and led by Kalyan Kumar Pathak, Additional SP (HQ) Kamrup cum Additional SP STF, intercepted the vehicle at Amingaon on Tuesday night.
Partha Sarathi Mahant said, “The vehicle was examined and it was revealed that the narcotics were stored and hidden in secret compartments or chambers of the vehicle. It was cut open and a total of 36 packets of opium weighing 36 kg were recovered.”
The senior police officer further said that four people were caught and they were identified as Safiqul Ali (39), Mamtul Ali (31), Raju Ajali (35) and Ainul Haq (38).
Necessary legal action was initiated by STF police station. (ANI)
