36th National Road Safety Month inaugurated in Raigarh district

Raigarh. The 36th National Road Safety Month was inaugurated in the district with a grand program at the Police Community Police Bhawan. Superintendent of Police Divyang Kumar Patel, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Brijesh Singh Kshatriya and Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Markam, Ram Gopal Kariyare, District Transport Officer Amit Kashyap, NTPC AGM Zakir Khan were present on the stage in this program. The program was formally inaugurated by the guests by lighting a lamp near the statue of Maa Saraswati. On this occasion, Additional Superintendent of Police Akash Markam presented the outline of Road Safety Month in his welcome address. He said that the main objective of this campaign is to make people aware of traffic rules. The traffic police and other police station teams of the district will conduct road safety awareness activities throughout the month.

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Brijesh Singh Kshatriya described the increasing number of road accidents year after year as worrying and appealed to the people to be sensitive towards traffic rules. Superintendent of Police Divyang Kumar Patel expressed serious concern over the situation of road accidents in the district. He said that 352 people lost their lives in road accidents in the year 2023 and 359 in 2024, which is a very serious issue. The biggest cause of accidental death is “road accident” in which incidents happen due to non-compliance of traffic rules. We can all get rid of this only by becoming aware. He identified three major causes in accidents:

  1. Driving without helmet – the main cause of serious head injuries.
  2. Drink and drive – the second main cause of fatal incidents.
  3. Disorganized parking and haphazard parking of vehicles on the road.

He said that focusing on these three reasons, action will be taken by the district police in the National Road Safety Month 2025. The district police has resolved that about 3000 free helmets will be distributed in this entire month. Also, more and more people will be added to this awareness program. The district police will try to reduce the death rate due to road accidents. He said that 16 black spots in the district where more accidents have taken place in the last three years were focused on and necessary action has reduced accidents at the black spots.

In the program, Yuvraj Singh Azad and his colleagues gave the message of following traffic rules through a nukkad-nataka. The traffic jingle song broadcast on FM radio was released by the Superintendent of Police. The program was conducted by David Daniel. After the program, the Superintendent of Police, Commissioner Municipal Corporation and guests flagged off the traffic chariot and helmet awareness rally for a tour of the city. Deputy Superintendent of Police Uttam Pratap Singh, Reserve Inspector Amit Singh, Inspector Sukhnandan Patel, Prashant Rao, Anuranjan Lakra, ASI Rajendra Patel, Premsai Bhagat, members of print and electronic media and the supporting organization Honda Motors, students, staff of traffic police station were present in the program. This launch of National Road Safety Month has given a strong message of awareness towards road safety in Raigarh. The administration and police have appealed to the public for cooperation to make this initiative successful.
