40K electric vehicles in Indore consume around 80K units of electricity daily.

Madhya Pradesh: The rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Indore has significantly increased the city’s electricity consumption, while these vehicles are being promoted as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to conventional fuel-based transport. Currently, approximately 40,000 electric vehicles are operating in Indore. In total, these vehicles consume approximately 80,000 units of electricity per day, significantly increasing overall electricity demand. Each month, EVs consume approximately 2.2 million units of electricity, with a market value estimated to be between ₹17.5 million and ₹20 million.
EVs increase electricity consumption, but they have also helped reduce air pollution. The electricity used to charge thousands of vehicles has significantly reduced smoke and exhaust, and the environmental benefits are equivalent to planting hundreds of trees. Two-wheelers like electric scooters and bikes consume one to two units of electricity per day for charging, while electric cars, e-rickshaws, light commercial vehicles, buses, and trucks require 10 to 25 units of electricity daily.
The growth of EVs has reduced average transportation costs for users, although it has also led to a slight increase in electricity demand across cities.
