5 arrested for demanding extortion money of Rs 164 crore from builder by threatening ED action
Mumbai: Mumbai Crime Branch has detained five people for threatening a renowned developer of Mumbai and demanding Rs 164 crore from him. Police said one of the accused threatened the builder that if he did not pay them a huge amount, he would implicate him in an Enforcement Directorate case.
The detained accused have been identified as Rajendra Sirsat, Rakesh Kumar, Kalpesh Bhosale, Abrish Dubey, all four are in real estate business, while the fifth accused Sandeep Tadge is in the stock market. Two more suspects are involved in the case and police have received their details and are on the lookout for them, police said.
Case handed over to Unit 9
The case has been registered at Bandra Police Station and handed over to Unit 9 for further investigation. On January 6, the accused called the victim and demanded money. They met the victim at a coffee shop in Bandra on January 10, where one of the accused introduced himself as an ED officer and threatened to book him in an ED case, an officer said.
Police have got CCTV footage of the coffee shop in which the accused are seen there. The complainant did not want to pay the money so he approached a senior officer for help.
