Varanasi: GRP caught a young man with cash worth Rs 50 lakh at Varanasi Junction railway station in UP. Could not show documents related to money. There were 100 packets of Rs 500 each in his bag. Besides, AC-3 coach ticket of Down Doon Express was also found from him. The recovered money is said to be from a bullion businessman from Mumbai. Income Tax officers and Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) members also reached the GRP police station. Prima facie investigation suggests that the recovered money is black money.

GRP CO Kunwar Prabhat Singh told reporters on Sunday that the team led by Inspector-in-Charge Hemant Singh was checking suspicious people and objects on platform number nine. Meanwhile, the bag of a young man standing near the new foot overbridge was searched. Out of which Rs 50 lakh was found in cash. During interrogation, Govinda Paik, a resident of Midnapore (West Bengal), told that he works at the shop of bullion businessman Vikas Samanta of Mumbai. He is going to Shrirampur (West Bengal) with their money. However, he could not show any valid document related to the money. Due to which he was taken into custody and brought to the police station.
During interrogation here, Govinda told that on Saturday at Maidagin, a person named Amar Santra gave him a bag full of money. He told that this money was collected as money from the bullion traders of Banaras. Which was to be given to someone at a place called Bali, located ahead of Shrirampur. Income Tax Department and ATS team also reached on Sunday. The money was deposited in the bank, while Govinda was released after the paperwork was done.
