61,511 Appointments in the Health Sector: Minister M. Subramanian

Tamil Nadu: Minister for Public Health M. Subramanian stated that 61,511 individuals have been recruited in the health sector over the past five years.

A ceremony to issue appointment orders to 1,071 Assistant Doctors—selected by the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MSSB)—was held on Friday at the Directorate of Public Health (DPH) in Chennai. Speaking to reporters while attending the event, Minister M. Subramanian said:

“Since the DMK government assumed office, appointment orders for field workers in the health sector have been issued in a phased manner; consequently, this sector now stands as one where not a single post remains vacant. Over the last five years, appointment orders have been issued to 13,093 individuals through the MRP, and to 48,418 individuals through the TNPSC and the National Health Mission.

Furthermore, 17,780 new posts have been created. Additionally, 59,985 individuals have received promotions or job transfers through an open counseling process. We have issued directives to the Deans of all college hospitals to prepare and serve food using electric stoves and firewood hearths, ensuring that this transition has no adverse impact on patients. To date, no negative consequences have been observed. Steps are also being taken to provide patients with protein-rich meals in addition to their regular diet.

Oil companies participated in a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary. During this meeting, a demand was put forth to ensure that cooking gas is supplied to hospitals across Tamil Nadu without any shortages. The Minister added that there are currently no deficiencies in the provision of food to students residing in medical college hostels.

Among those present during this meeting were Public Health Secretary P. Senthilkumar, Chairperson of the Medical Services Recruitment Board Uma Maheswari, Director of the Tamil Nadu Health Project Dr. Vineet, Director of the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Dr. Somasundaram, and other officials.”
