Wild elephant looted teak shop, damaged cabbage truck
Erode: A wild elephant vandalized a tea stall near Pannari Amman temple and damaged sacks of cabbage in a vehicle parked near the road. The famous Pannari Mariamman Temple is situated in a dense forest near Sathyamangalam in Erode district.
Devotees come to this temple daily. In such a situation, at night, a wild elephant coming out of the forest area was walking on the Sathyamangalam-Mysore National Highway located next to the temple. It is said that the wild elephant suddenly entered a teak shop in the area and with its trunk damaged the goods kept inside the shop including utensils and also broke and damaged the peanut candy bottles kept in the shop.
People in the area also said that he used his trunk to separate bundles of cabbage from a van parked on the roadside and ate them. In such a situation, the devotees and public coming to the temple got scared after seeing the behavior of wild elephants.
After receiving information about this, the forest department came to the spot and started the work of driving away the elephant. After half an hour’s struggle they chased the wild elephant into the forest. Due to this, there was a situation of tension in the area for some time.
