3 killed, 10 injured as overhead water tank collapses on platform at Burdwan railway station
Three people were killed and at least 10 were injured when a high water tank collapsed on platforms 2 and 3 at Burdwan railway station around 12.10 pm on Wednesday.
The condition of three of the injured is critical.
All the injured have been admitted to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.
It is learned that railway officials including RPF and GRP personnel along with the state fire department team were involved in the rescue of the affected passengers. The deaths were confirmed by the hospital superintendent.
Train services in the division were affected but Eastern Railway officials confirmed that services on platforms 1 and 4 at Burdwan station have resumed for the time being.
Railways has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The emergency official said the large metal water tank fell on passengers waiting on combined platforms 2 and 3 of Bardhaman station, PTI reported.
The official said that three railway employees have been suspended.
