Congress leader Kamaljit Singh Karwal joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of BJP state president Sunil Jakhar and other leaders at the party office in Chandigarh.

Karwal was also jailed in a controversial case of assault on a tehsildar.
