Delhi Police team goes to Calcutta to get details of Lalit Jha’s Bengal links

A three-member special team of Delhi Police visited Kolkata on Monday and visited several places where arrested Parliament security breach mastermind Lalit Mohan Jha had links during his stay here, an official said.

The team members, along with some Kolkata Police officials, first went to Barabazar, where Jha and his family had stayed just a month earlier.

A Calcutta police officer said, “They spoke to locals, a tea stall owner and recorded details about Jha, who used to teach students. They also visited a house in Ravindra Sarani, where Jha lived on rent.”

Unable to enter the locked room where Jha and his family stayed, the Delhi Police Special Cell team went to the local police station and sought help in contacting the person who had the keys.” They said.

The Delhi Police team is likely to visit a house in Baguihati here where Jha and his family were also staying on rent.

During investigation, the Special Task Force (STF) unit of Kolkata Police found that Jha and his family were living at two other addresses besides Burabazar, Girish Park and Baguiati.

“All three addresses have now been closed and his entire family has moved to Bihar,” an official said.

Delhi Police has so far arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the Parliament security breach case. A case has been registered against them under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Two of them jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour on 13 December, released yellow smoke from canisters and raised slogans before being caught by the MPs.

Around the same time, two other people released colored smoke from canisters and raised slogans outside the Parliament complex.

Lalit and another accused later surrendered before the police.
