Mumbai: Woman crushed by bike rider
Mumbai: A 45-year-old woman from Mankhurd died after being hit by a motorcycle while going to work on Thursday. According to the police, the fatal accident occurred around 9.30 am when Sharda alias Alimabi Walekar, who worked as a housekeeper, was crossing the road near Unit No. 22 bus stop in Aarey Colony.
38-year-old accused Mehdi Pradhan hit her while driving at high speed. Due to the impact of the collision, Walekar suffered serious injuries on her head and left arm and became unconscious. Pradhan took him to the Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari in an auto-rickshaw. However, the woman succumbed to her wounds and was declared dead at 12.45 pm.
Later, Pradhan was arrested under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Aarey sub police station senior inspector Jagdish Deshmukh said the body was handed over to Walekar’s family after post-mortem.
