Former BDO: Former BDO of the district convicted in DA case, sentenced to 2 years
Balangir: The former Block Development Officer (BDO) of Agalpur block in Odisha’s Balangir district was convicted in the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case on Saturday. The culprit has been identified as Silvanus Lakra, retired BDO of Agalpur block.
Honorable Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir has sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for a term of 2 years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh. The court has further said that in case of non-payment of fine, he will have to undergo additional rigorous imprisonment of 5 months. So far in December 2023, there have been convictions in 16 cases. Odisha Vigilance has taken several steps to strengthen prosecution.
The trials in 21 Vigilance Courts are being closely monitored by the Vigilance Directorate. Recently, 21 PLOs (Prosecution Liaison Officers) have been deployed. In addition, 8 posts of Expert Legal Advisors have been sanctioned by the Government.
