Delhi: Covid positive samples sent for genome sequencing
New Delhi: The Delhi government has sent COVID-19 positive samples to laboratories for genome sequencing, officials said on Tuesday. Official sources said that till Sunday, 63 cases of Covid sub-variant JN.1 were reported in the country, including 34 cases in Goa.
He said that nine cases have been reported in Maharashtra, eight in Karnataka, six in Kerala, four in Tamil Nadu and two in Telangana.
“Three-four (Covid) cases are being reported every day in Delhi, which means the positivity rate is less than 1 per cent. Samples of positive patients have been sent for genome sequencing,” an official said.
He said the samples have been sent to genome-sequencing laboratories at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS).
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Monday said the national capital is recording an average of three-four Covid cases every day and added that the city is well equipped to fight the resurgence of the virus.
“We had a meeting with the Center on the COVID-19 situation and we were told that the number of cases is increasing in southern states like Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu,” Bhardwaj told reporters on the sidelines of an event. We are testing and getting an average of three to four cases per day… We have conducted mock drills and made all necessary arrangements.”
