Man sentenced to 10 years in jail for acid attack on college girls
Madurai: Madurai Women’s Court has sentenced a man who threw acid on college girls to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
S Sankaranarayanan of Tirumangalam has been sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment. In 2014, he had thrown acid on two girl students near the college in Thirumangalam.
Meena and Angleshwari were treated at the government-run Rajaji Hospital with 25 percent and 15 percent burns respectively.
Officials said that considering the nature of the case and the physical and mental suffering caused to both the women, the court said adopting a lenient approach in sentencing was not appropriate and required stricter punishment. He said that a fine of Rs 40,000 was also imposed on the accused.
