Nirmala Sitharaman pays last tribute to ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth
Chennai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai reached the Island Ground to pay her last respects to late actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth, who died of illness at a city hospital on Thursday.

Sitharaman highlighted Vijayakanth being philanthropic and making arrangements to serve his film crew the same quality food that he eats during shooting and breaking down “bias and discrimination” on the sets of his film.
“I have no words to express the demise of a person who supported people with his money. Earlier, actor Rajinikanth reached the Island Ground and paid tribute to the DMDK founder.

Vijayakanth’s mortal remains were brought to the Island Ground at Anna Salai on Friday morning and kept there for filmgoers, political personalities and the general public to have their last glimpse. His body will be taken from the site for the funeral ceremony after 1 pm. His funeral is expected to take place today at 4:30 pm.
