GANGTOK: Governor visits Dikchu and lower Zonghu areas affected by flash floods

Gangtok: Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya today visited Dikchu market and interacted with local residents, business community and people affected by the recent floods. According to a Raj Bhavan release, the Governor inquired about the current condition of the affected residents and their living conditions after the flash floods.

“The Governor heard the complaints and concerns of the victims and received information about the challenges faced by the affected community. He also learned about the Central and State schemes being implemented in the area and directed the officials and panchayat members present at the site to ensure the implementation of these schemes, while also emphasizing on their reaching out to every door,” the release said. stated in.

The residents took advantage of the opportunity to apprise the Governor about the importance of Dikchu Shiva Temple, a cultural and spiritual historical site more than 70 years old. The temple was washed away in the sudden flood. Recognizing the community’s deep emotional attachment to the temple, the Governor immediately conducted a site visit to assess the impact on the Dikchu Shiva Temple.

Additionally, the Governor rushed to Fidang village in Lum Gor Sangtok GPU of Lower Dzonghu, where two bridges and seven houses were washed away in flash floods. Lum Gor Sangtok Panchayat Chairman Dawa Dorji Lepcha briefed the Governor about the damage and the current situation in the area.

The Governor reiterated the State’s commitment in providing prompt and comprehensive assistance to the affected areas in coordination with the Central Government.

The Governor was also accompanied by Gangtok SDM Suresh Rai, Tintech BDO Kishore Thapa and Dikchung Jang Ward Panchayat Tilak Sharma.
