CHENNAI: HR&CE minister PK Shekharbabu on Sunday said the department has achieved BHOG certification to ensure the quality of annadhanam (free food) and prasadam to devotees in 523 temples across the state.
The department has received the Anandamaya Swachh Prasad to the Lord (BHOG) certificate, which was issued to 523 temples in the state by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. After inaugurating the all-day prasadam scheme at the Arulmigu Parthasarathy Swamy temple in Triplicane, the minister said Tamil Nadu is the leading state to obtain the BHOG certificate.
Full day prasadam scheme extended
Similarly, programs were started at Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai, Arulmigu Kallalagar Temple in Madurai, Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameshwaram and Arulmigu Subramanya Swamy Temple in Tiruparankundram.
“DMK’s Dravidian model government is the only government in the Indian subcontinent that understands and caters to the needs of the devotees. This government, today, launched the scheme to distribute prasad in five temples, taking the total number of temples covered under this scheme to 20,” the minister said after launching the scheme at Arulmigu Parthasarathy Swamy temple.
The government has allocated Rs 25 crore for the scheme; He said and added that the government has also extended the full-day Annadhanam scheme to six temples in addition to the two temples where the scheme was already in place. CM will soon launch the scheme in three more temples.
“Around 92,000 devotees are being benefited daily under the scheme and the scheme has been implemented by the government at a cost of Rs 100 crore,” he said.
On the damage caused to temples due to Cyclonic Storm Michong in the northern districts and torrential rains in the southern districts, the Minister said that the department will start and complete the work of repair and renovation of the temples damaged in the natural disaster this month.
