10 skill training centers launched under PM Vishwakarma Yojana
Margao: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Chandrashekhar along with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated ten skill training centers under the PM Vishwakarma scheme in Goa, making it the initial batch and the first state to launch the centres. Speaking at the event organized by the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE) at Rabindra Bhawan in Margao on Thursday, Chandrashekhar stressed on the government’s commitment to equip 25,000 youth in Goa with ‘future-ready’ and industry-relevant skills .
In his keynote address, Chandrashekhar said that to make India a developed country by 2047, Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to empower the youth. Underlining the changing employment scenario, he said that merely acquiring an academic degree is inadequate in the present scenario. He stressed the need for individuals to have practical skills to perform tasks while expressing the government’s commitment to ensure at least one skilled person in every household. Reflecting on India’s economic progress, Chandrashekhar said that after being one of the five fragile economies in 2014, the country has now made it to the top five, with the Prime Minister aspiring to reach the top three. He stressed the importance of skills rather than traditional education to keep pace with the emerging economic models.
The CM echoed these sentiments, saying that Goa aims to become ‘skilled, fit and inclusive’ by 2047 in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India’. Sawant highlighted the historic step of identifying and supporting 18 traditional occupations and trades. To provide them government assistance. The government has signed MoUs with various entities including DSDE, Directorate of Higher Education and industries in the IT sector to provide training to the youth.
