2 IEDs defused on highway in Jammu
In a significant operation, security forces in the Kathua district along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway successfully neutralized two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing 1.5 kg and 1 kg each.
During an early morning search operation led by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Kathua district, law enforcement discovered two suspicious objects concealed in a polythene packet along the Bein Nalla, near the cremation ground. Acting swiftly, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned to examine the objects, ultimately confirming them as IEDs.
The IEDs, each housed within a plastic bottle, were equipped with various components, including an electric detonator, a 9V battery sourced from Malaysia, a circuit, screws functioning as splinters, and explosive material. Moreover, the plastic containers encasing the IEDs were coated with Plaster of Paris, enhancing their potential lethality.
Recognizing the imminent danger, the police team skillfully dismantled both IEDs on the spot, averting any potential harm. The controlled detonation of the dismantled devices ensured the safety of the area. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway to ascertain whether the IEDs were intended for use in Kathua or if they were dispatched from Pakistan for delivery elsewhere in the Union Territory.
Given Kathua’s proximity to the International Border (IB) with Pakistan, the incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by infiltration attempts. The authorities remain vigilant, employing proactive measures to safeguard the region from potential threats.
