Maharashtra firing case: Case registered against supporters of arrested BJP MLA for violating prohibitory orders
Thane: Police have registered a case against at least 40 supporters of BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, who were arrested for violating prohibitory orders by gathering outside a court in Thane district, an official said on Sunday. A Shiv Sena leader was shot and injured.
Police have issued orders banning gatherings in Ulhasnagar in view of rising tension following the firing incident inside a police station on Friday night, in which Sena leader Mahesh Gaikwad was seriously injured. According to police, supporters of Ganpat Gaikwad gathered outside a court on Saturday evening and raised slogans when he was brought there.
Police have identified 11 people and registered a case under sections 37(3) and 135 of the Bombay Police Act.
The court on Saturday sent Ganpat Gaikwad to police custody till February 14.
