‘NIT Goa Campus has borrowed from Goa’s unique architecture’

The National Institution of Technology (NIT) Goa Campus, which is spread over seven lakh square feet at Kottamol, Cuncolim, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually from the KTC bus stand, Fatorda, on Tuesday.

The campus has been built in a short span of little more than 2 years and the superintending engineer and project director PK Agarwal said it is one of the best examples of sustainable development.

“Many trees have been replanted under the supervision of an expert horticulturalist from Mangalore, besides over 2,000 new trees have also been planted on the campus to enhance tree cover,” said Agarwal.

The campus building has been built on the lines of Goan architecture, he said, adding that the sloping roof and the surrounding green hills lend it an appealing aesthetic.

“This NIT Goa Campus is first-of-its-type in India, having sloped-roof buildings constructed using precast RCC 3-S technology. Such buildings require high level of precision in its design and execution,” he said, adding that there is provision for rainwater management, an electric sub-station, besides other facilities on the campus.

This campus has been planned and executed by the Central Public Works Department.  The construction work of this campus has been carried out by M/s BG Shirke Construction Technology Pvt Ltd, Pune.
