Indian women’s hockey team coach resigns from her post

Odisha: Indian women’s hockey team head coach Yanek Shopman resigned from her post on Friday, days after creating a stir by claiming that she was not given respect and importance by the national federation. The Dutch coach replaced Sverd Marine in 2021, having led the team to a historic fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics. Shopman’s contract was due to expire in August after this year’s Paris Olympics, but is expected to be extended following his recent critical comments. It was said that she would not continue in this post.
Hockey India (HI) said that the 46-year-old coach submitted his resignation to Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey after the team’s campaign in the domestic leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League in Odisha ended. Hockey India issued a press release on the matter. Kar said, ‘His resignation after the disappointment in the recent Olympic qualifiers has paved the way for Hockey India to find a suitable head coach for the women’s hockey team which will be competing for the next Women’s World Cup in 2026 and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Could prepare the Indian team for this.
