AIDS awareness workshop organized under out of school youth program
Jalore : Under the joint aegis of Nehru Yuva Kendra Jalore and Rajasthan State AIDS Control Society Jaipur, Peer Educator Workshop on the topic of HIV AIDS was organized at Jat Samaj Seva Sansthan, Dhawala Road, Jalore.
Deputy Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra Kishanlal Jat gave information regarding the program. Dr. Amit Shrimali, consultant of the district hospital, guided the students by making the youth realize the statement ‘We all have decided to eradicate AIDS’. He clarified the differences between HIV and AIDS and made them aware of their nuances. He said that AIDS is a terrible disease for which there is no cure. If youth do not become aware of AIDS in time, then the number of AIDS patients will continue to increase.
Gopal Sharma, reference person at the program, said that safe behavior change should be induced among the general population by targeting vulnerable and high-risk groups including women and youth. Youth can play an important role in removing social myths and misconceptions about HIV/AIDS.
In the program, retired Naab Tehsildar Arjun Singh discussed about discriminatory treatment of AIDS affected people, integrated counseling and testing centres, misconceptions about HIV/AIDS, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, high possibility of youth getting infected with HIV, anti-retroviral therapy and blood transfusion. -Discussed in detail on security related etc. Former physical teacher Jayanarayan expressed his views in the program.
The Youth Clubs of Nehru Yuva Kendra will be capacity enhanced to provide education and counseling facilities on HIV/AIDS related issues, make ART medicines accessible to all, and help people affected by HIV/AIDS to identify issues related to stigma and discrimination.
On this occasion, many youth including Program Accounts Assistant Amit Sachdeva, NYV Dinesh, Arvind, Uttam Kumar, Prakash Kumar, Vishal and Khasaram were present.
