Three killed in road accident in Odisha, villagers blocked road
Jajpur: Three youths died after being hit by a speeding truck near the main gate of Jindal Stainless Plant in Kalinga Nagar here on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Chakradhar Sonia (28) of Suanla village in the industrial area and brother-sister Anil Hansda (29) and Sunil Hansda (17) of Tangariapala village under Duburi.
The incident happened when all three were going from Duburi towards Jajpur Road on bike in the afternoon. It is said that a speeding truck hit him from behind. While the siblings died on the spot, Souniya was seriously injured and was taken to Danagadi Community Health Center (CHC), where she was declared brought dead.
After the accident, the driver of the truck sped away. On information, police reached the spot and confiscated the bike. This incident spread tension in the area and local people gathered at the spot and blocked the road. Vehicular traffic on the Jajpur Road-Duburi section was disrupted for a long time before the police managed to normalize the situation.
Local people identified the truck and demanded the arrest of the driver. He also demanded concrete steps to prevent road accidents in the area.
The police have taken the dead bodies into their custody and sent them for post-mortem. The exact cause of death has not been known yet. “We are examining the footage from CCTV cameras installed near the accident site to find out the reason behind the accident,” a police officer said.
