Odisha: Fraudster who cheated a person of Rs 10 lakh arrested
Cuttack: Mangalabagh police on Saturday arrested a man for cheating him of Rs 10 lakh by giving fake currency notes. The accused Ghana Bhoi alias Bapuni of Budhapada of Biridi area of Jagatsinghpur was absconding and was caught during a raid at his house at night.
Additional DCP Anil Mishra said that on August 2 last year, Manash Barik of Rausapatana had lodged a complaint that Saroj Jena and her associates had defrauded him of Rs 10 lakh, after which the police started investigation.
According to the complaint, the accused had asked Barik to give 10 lakh rupees of 500 rupees in exchange of 12 lakh rupees of 100 and 200 rupees. Being lured by the offer, Barik gave him the said amount. However, they later realized that the notes given to them by the accused were fake.
During the investigation, police arrested four of them, Saroj Jena, Rajesh Khuntia, Sushant Sethi and Manoj Patnaik on August 7 last year and recovered Rs 1.3 lakh in cash and gold jewelery from them. Another accused Swadhin Pradhan had surrendered on October 19 but Bapuni was absconding.
