Private school bus drivers, attendants to be paid salaries during winter months: DSEK
In the latest development, Director School Education Kashmir has asked all private schools to ensure that drivers and attendants of their school buses are paid salaries during the winter months like other school staff.
These instructions have been issued during a meeting called by the Director School Education Kashmir with representatives of about 51 schools across Kashmir.
Director School Education Kashmir Tassaduq Hussain Mir has issued a public notification to clarify the position regarding the instructions issued to private schools during the recent meeting held at the Directorate here on April 4, 2024.
The meeting was called to discuss charging of fees other than those prescribed by the Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC), admissions for the current academic session, issue of books and other issues concerning both parents and school owners.
“It is notified for the information of the general public that no meeting minutes in this regard have been issued by this Directorate so far. Some self-styled organizations are issuing meeting minutes at their own level, misleading the general public, which can never be considered as facts and such acts are strongly refuted,” said a notification issued by Director Education Kashmir. It reads, “These organizations are warned to desist from such activities otherwise strict action will be initiated against them.”
Director Education Kashmir said that during the meeting, private schools were directed not to charge any admission or any capitation fee apart from other fees not prescribed by the FFRC.
“Schools were directed not to burden students with additional books or additional material other than those prescribed by the government,” the notice said.
It said schools were instructed to charge bus fees as approved by the FFRC.
“However, the drivers and other attendants should be paid salaries during winter as are paid to other employees of the institute,” the notice said.
The Director of School Education said that any dispute over fees is a dispute between the parent and the institution.
“Students should not be deprived of discharge certificate, admit card or other related documents under any circumstances, which is against the RTE Act,” the notice said.
