Chief Minister reveals, only one citizenship application received under CAA
Guwahati, April 9: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said only one person from Barak Valley has applied for citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Speaking to media persons, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The entire CAA movement was baseless, and this has been proved. There is no such thing as CAA, no one from the state has applied for it. Till date, only one person from Barak Valley has applied for citizenship application under CAA. “The entire protest against CAA was based on misunderstanding and now the protesters will have to answer. Sarma said, some people are doing politics with the emotions of the people.
The Center last month invoked the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, after Parliament passed a law to provide fast-track citizenship to undocumented non-Muslim immigrants who came to India before December from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The rules were notified after four years. 31, 2014.
