Ahmedabad: Police and the customs department have seized hybrid cannabis worth Rs 1.12 crore from courier packages in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat. An official gave this information on Saturday. The seizure was made in a joint operation by the Ahmedabad city crime branch and the customs department, the official said. According to a release issued by the crime branch, the smugglers were transporting the drugs through couriers using the dark web and other social media platforms. The release said that the department had received information that smugglers were smuggling drugs across the border by hiding them in lunch boxes, toys, baby care items, clothes, headphones, air purifiers etc. using the dark web and other social media platforms.
A joint team intercepted several courier parcels containing 3.75 kg of high-quality synthetic/hybrid cannabis worth Rs 1.12 crore in international markets, it said. The crime branch on Friday registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The addresses and numbers on the courier packages were false, making tracing extremely difficult, police said in the release.
