Ariyalur woman kills 1-year-old granddaughter to trap daughter-in-law, arrested
Tiruchi: A woman killed her one-year-old granddaughter in Ariyalur on Saturday as she doubted her mother’s loyalty. Krithika, the second daughter of Ariyalur couple Raja (25) and Sandhya (21), was the victim of the incident. Since the girl was born after Raja went to Singapore for work, her mother Virudhammal suspected Sandhya’s loyalty. There was a quarrel between the two on this issue.
On Friday, Sandhya went to houses to sell milk and returned home, she found a one-year old girl lying unconscious. She rushed the girl to the government hospital, but doctors declared her dead. On receiving information, the Thalavai police recovered the body of the girl and registered a case based on Sandhya’s complaint. Sandhya suspected that her mother-in-law Virudhammal might have killed the girl and asked the police to question her. Based on the information, the police have registered a case against Virudhammal and started investigation. After detailed interrogation, Virudhammal confessed to the police that he had killed the child. After this, the police arrested him. Further investigation is underway.
