TIRUCHY: Bullet fired accidentally from country made gun, Illupur youth dies

Tiruchi: A 19-year-old youth from Pudukottai died on Tuesday after a pellet accidentally fired while repairing an air rifle on a lathe. P Lakshmanan of Illupur in Pudukottai district used to go hunting with a country gun along with his uncle Thakkamalai and friend Saravanan, who owned country-made rifles. On Tuesday, while they were repairing the rifles on a lathe owned by Arumugam at Karamedu, a bullet accidentally fired from the gun and Lakshmanan fell unconscious after being hit in the stomach. He was rushed to Manapparai GH, from where he was referred to Tiruchi GH. However, he died despite treatment. Meanwhile, DIG Manharan and SP Vandita Pandey, Illupur RDO and other officials rushed to the spot and conducted investigation. The Illupur police have registered a case and are investigating.
