11 killed after massive fire erupts at five-storeyed building in Manila
Manila: In a tragic incident, atleast 11 people were killed after massive fire erupted in a five-storey residential and commercial building in the Chinatown district of Manila on Friday.
“The wife of the building owner was among those that died,” Nelson Ty, an elected official for the community where the fire broke out, told radio station DZRH, adding that vendors had used the structure to store their goods at night as reported by Reuters.
The fire broke out in the wee hours of morning and the fire personnel were alerted at around 7.30 am. The blaze was doused after three hours of fire.
It is still not clear if more people had been trapped and were feared dead, informed Nelson Ty.
Last year in August, around sixteen people died in a fire that broke out at a residential and warehouse building, while a massive fire engulfed the capital’s historic Central Post Office building in May 2023.
