Avadi: 5-year-old girl dies due to electric shock while opening refrigerator

Chennai: A five-year-old girl was electrocuted in her house in Avadi on Tuesday night. The incident occurred when she opened the refrigerator. The deceased girl has been identified as G Roopavati, a Class 1 student in a private school. She lived with her parents Gautham and Priya at Nethaji Street in Nandavana Mettur in Avadi. Gautham works as a collection agent in a private bank while Priya is a housewife. Hearing the girl’s screams on Tuesday night, the parents rushed and found her lying unconscious near the refrigerator. Roopavati was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead. The Avadi police have sent the girl’s body to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The police suspect that the electrocution may have occurred due to damaged wiring in the refrigerator. Further investigation is underway.
