Shimla: Bishop Cotton’s boys shine in football tournament
Shimla: Bishop Cotton School (BCS) defeated Pinegrove School to win the 12th Bishop George Edward Lynch Annual Football Tournament. BCS won the final match which ended in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw. The BCS team missed only one penalty out of four to beat their opponents in the final.
The match was a great moment of triumph for BCS football coach Gurpreet Singh, as the school won the tournament for the ninth time in a row. A total of nine school football teams from across India, including Lawrence School, Sanawar, Daly College (Indore), La Martiniere (Lucknow), Yadavindra Public School (Mohali) and Army Public School (Dagshai), took part in the tournament.
Simon Weil, Director, BCS said, “The growth of football in India shows that one day the quality of India’s football will match the cricket here. It was a pleasure to welcome our fellow boarding schools to this exciting event and we are thrilled that our boys managed to win the tournament.” BCS will now travel to Mayo College and Sanawar for the final two tournaments of the season.
