Jalandhar: Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s associate arrested after encounter

Jalandhar: Jalandhar Commissionerate Police arrested Kannu Gujjar, a key associate of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, after an encounter. A huge cache of weapons was recovered in the operation carried out at Rampur Bilran village in Hoshiarpur. The development comes after the arrest of another member of the Bhagwanpuria gang, Naveen alias Kaka, who was identified on August 27 after a brief encounter in Lajpat Nagar.

A pistol and 1 kg heroin were also recovered in the encounter. Giving details about today’s operation, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that Gujjar was apprehended during a targeted raid. He later confessed that the gang was planning a major heist in Jalandhar and had hidden illegal weapons behind Hamilton Tower on 66 feet road in Jalandhar. He said, “On reaching the spot, the gangster tried to escape from police custody by firing from the pistol recovered from the spot. The police team opened fire to prevent him from escaping, as a result of which he sustained bullet injuries.” Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that the police have seized eight pistols, 55 cartridges and eight magazines from the spot.
